OPPR
The Out-Patient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program (OPPR) at Mount Sinai Hospital Montreal educates patients about pulmonary illness and encourages a more active and fulfilling life. Studies have shown that this type of program enables patients to control their breathlessness, encourages physical activity and thereby improves quality of life, while reducing hospital visits. OPPR also allows patients to socialize with others who suffer from the same or a similar disease.

Mount Sinai’s interdisciplinary team of health care professionals is comprised of a pneumologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, inhalation therapist, psychologist,  nurse, and dietician.

OPPR is an 8-week program with three sessions per week. During these sessions, patients will learn:
  • Proper nutrition
  • Energy conservation
  • Proper breathing techniques
  • Relaxation and coping strategies
  • Appropriate medication use
Therapists will also guide patients through a variety of different exercises to promote physical capacities.

Upon completion of the Out-Patient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, patients will have the opportunity to attend another 8-week program with one session per week. This program has been specially developed to encourage exercise at home and the maintenance of physical capacities.
