Mount Sinai is not just a Hospital, it is a Milieu de Vie that provides patients
with dignity and respect. The Milieu de Vie approach focuses on providing a warm,
welcoming and secure environment for all patients, especially those in the Long
Term Care unit. This concept aims to maintain and reinforce the upper mental functions
and functional autonomy of patients while promoting family involvement in the
decision making process. Mount Sinai Hospital Montreal acts as a home away from
home recognizing the importance of respect among patients and their families,
staff and volunteers.
The Recreology department is involved in creating this special “Milieu de Vie”
atmosphere. Through a wide range of programs and activities, patients are given
the creative and social outlets to maintain elements of their former day-to-day
lives. The Recreology department helps to promote an overall better quality of
life with a diversified calendar filled with various leisure activities including:
- Outings
- Barbecues
- Pet therapy
- Entertainment
- Winter concert
