Mount Sinai Hospital not only addresses the physical well being of its patients,
but also their spiritual needs. The Hospital offers religious support to all patients
with the presence of members of the clergy on site. Three Chaplains, a Rabbi,
a Catholic Priest and a Protestant Minister visit patients on a weekly basis.
Clergy members are also available for emergency and unscheduled visits.
The Hospital also provides Shabbat services for Jewish patients on each floor.
Every Friday afternoon, patients and family members await the arrival of the “Oneg
Shabbat” cart, filled with Shabbat candles, wine and bread, all supplied by the
Auxiliary.
Religious services are held for the major Jewish holidays as well as Mass on
Christmas and Easter. Patients can celebrate the festivities by partaking in special
holiday dinners. In addition, the Auxiliary provides patients with gifts and cards
for the holidays, including Rosh Hashannah, Christmas, Passover, Chanukah and
Easter.
