Food Services
At Mount Sinai Hospital Montreal all food is certified Kosher under the daily supervision of the Jewish Council of Montreal. In fact, Mount Sinai’s kitchen caters Kosher food to other Montreal area hospitals. Non-Kosher food is only permissible in dedicated Hospital areas.

All meals are dietician-approved based on each patient’s dietary needs. Upon admission to the Hospital, patients meet with a dietician for an introductory consultation. Mount Sinai Hospital Montreal makes every effort to accommodate the individual tastes and needs of patients.

Various types of meals are available based on both food textures (liquid, minced, pureed…) and specific dietary needs, such as:
  • Sugar free
  • Lactose free
  • Gluten free
  • Hyper protein
  • Low sodium
  • Low potassium
  • High fiber
  • Plus many more
Patients in the short-term units may select their own menus, two days in advance. Long-term care patients receive pre-established menus, with some room for modification.

In-room patient food service hours:
  • Breakfast 7:45 AM – 8:00 AM
  • Lunch 11:45 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Dinner 4:45 PM – 5:00 PM
Each nursing unit has a dining room, where patients and their families can dine.

A cafeteria and summer terasse are also available. The cafeteria features hot meals and a salad bar. Vouchers are available at the reception desk in the main lobby. The cafeteria and patio are reserved for staff and visitors during lunch time from 11:30AM - 1:00 PM.

The Hospital also features a Coffee shop, operated by the Auxiliary, which serves a variety of light meals and beverages, as well as 24-hour vending machines and microwaves. The Coffee shop is open everyday from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, except weekends and the Jewish holidays.

The Hospital also provides meals for religious holidays.
