At Mount Sinai Hospital, patient care is our number one priority. The User’s Committee was established to ensure that our patients receive the most generous and satisfactory care and the best possible quality of life. This committee is comprised of a group of representatives of inpatients, outpatients, families, volunteers and hospital administrators.

This forum addresses the following mandate concerning patient rights:

• To inform users of their rights and obligations
• To foster the improvement of the quality of living conditions of users
• To assess the degree of satisfaction of users with regard to services received
• To defend the common rights and interests of users

Mount Sinai Hospital Center has at heart the respect of your rights and therefore recognizes to each patient:

• The right to information
• The right to confidentiality
• The right to proper care and service
• The right to autonomy and respect
• The right to quality of life
• The right to dignity
• The right to intimacy
• The right to be respected based on religious and cultural beliefs
• The right to refuse care
• The right to make informed choices  
• The right to insure that all rights are respected

In order to facilitate service and care, patient responsibilities include:

• To be on time to appointments
• To possess a valid Medicare card and a Mount Sinai Hospital identification card, if applicable
• To participate and collaborate with the healthcare professionals and in the rehabilitation process
• To follow the advice and recommendations provided by professionals. If you have questions or do not understand, ask for supplementary information
• To respect the rights and objects of others. To be polite and social with your peers
• To respect the rules and regulations of the Hospital, established to assure general well being
• To respect the prohibition against smoking inside Mount Sinai Hospital
