Rest Assured bed campaign delivers 22 new beds to Mount Sinai Hospital

Calling it “a proud day at Mount Sinai”, staff and patients watched excitedly on April 10 as 22 new “smart” beds were delivered to rooms on all three floors. The delivery of the beds was the result of the Mount Sinai Foundation’s latest successful fundraiser: the Rest Assured bed campaign. As the new beds arrived, the older ones were donated to international aid organization CSI – Collaboration Santé International.

The new beds at Mount Sinai – two of which are bariatric beds designed to comfortably accommodate larger patients – offer a range of benefits for both patients and staff. The beds are equipped to send a patient’s vital information directly to the nursing station.

“This is a proud moment”, head nurse Ryan Bisessar commented as he watched the beds being delivered to rooms for pulmonary rehab patients on the second floor. “The involvement of the Mount Sinai Foundation in this project for the well-being of patients and staff shows a real person-centered approach.”

Dr. Suzanne Levitz, a physician at Mount Sinai and Associate Director of Professional Services for CIUSSS West-Central Montreal, says the new beds will help make it easier for staff to take care of patients. “Having integrated beds means all the equipment is right there,” Dr. Levitz says. “If someone needs to be weighed for example, it can be done directly in the bed.”

Dr. Levitz thanked the Foundation for consistently helping meet the goals of the care team at Mount Sinai. “Without their support we wouldn’t be able to do what we do so well here.”
