Sleep Apnea Clinic

The Mount Sinai Hospital Sleep Apnea Centre accommodates patients with sleep apnea disorders. Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a disorder in which one stops breathing during sleep, most often caused by an obstruction to the airway. This obstruction disrupts sleep, preventing the patient from ever achieving a deep rest.

Upon referral from a physician, patients are evaluated by a pulmonary physician specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. Sleep studies are mostly prescribed as home sleep studies.  When required, patients are diagnosed overnight in the Sleep Apnea Laboratory with a sleep pattern assessment. The state of the art equipment at Mount Sinai’s Sleep Apnea Centre monitors brain waves, eye movement, heart rhythms and oxygen levels. If necessary, patients who require further follow-up with appropriate treatment will be transferred to Mount Sinai’s outpatient clinic.
